VILLA SERBELLONI
Villa Serbelloni is a villa in Bellagio, Northern Italy. Just behind the hill of the promontory into the lake of Como, protected from the winds, the villa dominates the town's historic centre. It was built in the 15th century in place of an old castle razed in 1375. Villa Serbelloni was later rebuilt several times. In 1788 it came into the possession of Alessandro Serbelloni (1745–1826) who enriched it with precious decorations and works of art of the 17th and 18th centuries.
On the inside, elegant halls with vault and coffered ceilings follow one another accurately decorated in the style of the 17th and 18th centuries. All around, the park develops along most of the promontory of Bellagio with vast tracts of thick woods where the Serbelloni gardeners had traced paths which nowadays still lead the way amongst the small clearings and English style gardens.
In 1873, The Grand Hotel opens its doors.
Significant funds are invested in extending the villa and turning it into the Grand Hotel Bellagio: it is an instant success and nobility from all over the world come to stay. Empire, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles come together harmoniously, delighting and enchanting the wealthy guests of the day.
In 1918, When the First World War comes to an end, Arturo Bucher, grandson of the Swiss entrepreneur and luxury hotel pioneer Franz Josef Bucher, buys the Grand Hotel. With 150 members of staff, the hotel attracts increasingly prominent names to this beautiful oasis of peace.
Since 1950 Bellagio becomes more and more popular with Hollywood stars and international politicians: Sir Winston Churchill, Roosevelt, the Rothschilds, J. F. Kennedy, Mary Pickford, Clark Gable, and Al Pacino are just a few of the prestigious guests who have walked the lounges and gardens by the lake.
In 2023 the hotel celebrates 150 years.
A milestone of considerable importance and a chance to thank the numerous guests from all over the world that came to visit us during the course of the years, as through them the history of this awarded resort has always stood out and keeps being written, in the hope of an even brighter future.
We chose this wonderful Villa as the frame for our best day ever!
